| | Unaltered California rust-free Spider that has been completley gone through by our mechanic who was trained at Alfa Romeo in Turin, Italy 28 years ago. Recent repaint, interior, and engine work. New tires and brakes. This is a great car that should be driven and enjoyed while it continues annual appreciation of 5%-10%. The 1971 Spider Veloce is probably the most desirable of the series 2 Spiders (19701983) as it is the last year for Carello covered headlights, the first year for the classic dual pod dash, and had the nice cast 4 into 2 into 1 manifold (1971-1974). It also retained the 1750 engine and had the SPICA fuel injection (the 1970 model was not imported to the US). The SPICA system was created primarily for the famous Type 33 race car series and was based on a diesel injection pump. This all-mechanical system provided precise fuel metering, allowing Alfa to squeak under the emissions laws of the US for several years without sacrificing power, driveability, or adding a catalyst. With the possible exception of Porsche, Alfa Romeo was the best adapted and most driveable car make available in the US at that time. Alfa added a rear sway bar in 1971, substantially improving the handling of the cars by greatly reducing the understeer exhibited by the Duettos. The Spider is widely regarded as a design classic and remained in production for almost three decades (1966-1993); the first three series were assembled by Pininfarina in Grugliasco, Italy. Offered at $9,900. VIN: AR1485695. Go to www.mycarguy-sf.com for a 23-photo slide show. My Car Guy, San Francisco's only Diamond Certified Auto Broker/Dealer, and for over 8 straight years! |
